Name: Teddy
Type: Hamster
Breed: Teddy Bear or Syrian
Gender: Male
Teddy was given to us by friends who couldn't take him when they moved.
He came to his name and was one of the friendliest hamster I ever met, he always wanted to be held and played with and would sit on the couch next to us or on us when we were watching TV, reading, etc.
One time he was playing in his hamster ball, we forgot about him being out of the cage. About 4 hours later when we realized he wasn't in his cage, we remembered that he was in the ball we looked for him and we found him sitting outside his ball (less then 2 feet away from the open ball) just waiting.
He got sick. We took him to the vet and after an operation and a couple weeks of medication he ended up dying.
We don't know his exact age but we think he was about 3 years old when he died.
Sadly we didn't have him very long and never took any pictures of him.

Name: Lucky
Type: Dog
Breed: Greyhound
Gender: Male
Birthday: 1996 (don't know the exact date)
Lucky was a retired racing Greyhound. He was missing fur on parts of his body (mostly his belly & behind) because he was kept in a kennel on hard cement his whole racing life. His nose was also broken/bent because they put the same size muzzles on all the dogs so they can't win a race by their nose.
He had never been in a house or around kids so he had some trouble adjusting to the house (banging into windows, scared of stairs, etc) and he was aggressive with loud, hyper kids. He was also very food aggressive (if he got hold of any food he would attack if you went to close or tried to take it away) and seemed to hate my younger brother (he growled or snapped at him if he went near him).
After trying to work with him for 3 years and failing to fix the aggression my mother gave him back to the rescue.
I got Lucky when he was about 3 years old and he was given back when he was about 6 years old.

Name: Baby

Breed: Teddy Bear or Syrian
Gender: Male
Birthday: 2000 (Spring or Summer)
Died: 2006 (End of Winter)
My brother was given a pregnant hamster who had 6 babies.
Baby was the only blond and only male baby, he was also the only aggressive one (he would bite when you stuck your hand into the cage to feed him and when you tried to hold him or play with him).
After a lot of work and getting a lot of painful bites I finally got him to be friendlier and he became one of the friendliest hamsters ever.
He was played with all the time by adults and children and never had a problem.
He also got along pretty well with my cats (Smokey & Jen).
He was the longest living of the whole litter (1 died as a newborn, 2 died from unknown reasons before they were 6 months, 1 was accidentally killed by the young child of the family who adopted him and 1 lived about 3 years).
Baby lived to about 6 years old.

Name: Shadow
Type: Mouse
Gender: Male
Birthday: May 2006
Died: September 2006
I only had Shadow for about 4 months.
He was very cute and friendly, he liked to be held and never tried to run away.
He died right after we moved, we think it was from the stress of moving.
The day we moved he started scratching his head a lot, he scratched most of the fur off his head and died overnight.

Name: Zeus
Type: Dog
Breed: German Shepherd, Husky mix
Gender: Male
Birthday: 2007 (don't know exact date)
Zeus was left with me when his owners couldn't keep him anymore.
He had aggression problems because of fear (he was scared of strangers, especially men).
He was extremely friendly and cuddly with me and loved my 2 year old brother.
He also loved Nikki and was even good with Smokey & Jen.
He was okay with my parents but aggressive with my 16 year old brother (who is also scared of dogs).
We tried a bunch of different trainers but nothing worked and because he would try to attack any man and sometimes woman that came into the house and growled at or tried to attack my brother we ended up giving him to a no-kill rescue that was experienced with aggressive dogs.

Name: Galaxy
Type: Gecko
Breed: Leopard Gecko
Gender: Female
Birthday: February 9th, 2008
Galaxy was bought at a reptile pet store.
She was 1 month old when I got her.
She lost her tail when she was about 5 months old because Smokey got into her tank and tried to eat her.
Because of all the stress in her life she was nervous and never really got used to being held/picked up, she didn't bite but she would run and hide under her rock.
She loved feeding time and would come out of hiding for it. She would wait watching the feeding rock until I opened it and the crickets starting coming out.
She loved to eat small crickets but would ignore larger ones.
I tried to find ways to keep her safe from the cat for 2 years but the cat kept finding ways to get to the tank so I finally found her a new home where she would be safe.

Name: Spunky
Type: Ferret
Gender: Male
Birthday: July 6th, 2005
Died: April 13th, 2011
I adopted Spunky along with Chaos from a guy who didn't want them anymore.
He was about 2 years old.
He was friendly but never really liked to cuddle or be held and didn't play much.
He was more into exploring and liked to dig in anything he could.
He got a type of cancer when he was about 3.5/4 years old and had to take medication twice a day every day.
He started getting worse even with the medication so I brought him back to the vet, they found that he had another type of cancer also (pretty much his body was full of cancer).
The vet said he probably only had a couple weeks left and didn't seem to be suffering yet but would be soon, we decided to put him to sleep.

She was about 2 years old.
She was a very quiet, calm ferret.
She never wanted to play much but loved to cuddle with me or the other ferrets.
She was super friendly and always cuddling and kissing people, she was happy to be held and cuddled for hours at a time.
She got an enlarged spleen and adrenal disease, she was taking medication every day for the spleen and needed an injection once a year for the disease.
About 3-4 months before she died she got a type of cancer and started taking another medication twice a day.
One night I went to give her the medication and found her looking off and not really moving, it was late and we couldn't find a vet that was open and took ferrets. About 2 hours later she died at home.

Name: Inuyasha
Type: Ferret
Gender: Male
Birthday: April 30th, 2004
Died: June 7th, 2012
I got Inuyasha at a pet store when he was about 6 months old.
He was extremely aggressive and seemed to hate people but after working with him for a few months he became friendlier.
He started loving attention and was always giving me kisses and cuddling with me.
When I wasn't with him (being pet-sat, etc) he would still sometimes get aggressive, he got nervous when I wasn't with him (even with people he knew).
He would let anyone hold and play with him as long as I was there, he was a favorite at the ferret parties we went to (everyone loved him).
He was crazy hyper when he was young but slowed down when he got older and sick, he never totally stopped playing and exploring but he would come to cuddle a lot sooner after starting to play (played for about 30 minutes instead of a few hours before resting).
He has adrenal disease and was on medication for about 2 years but it didn't seem to bother him much.
He had to be put to sleep because he got a large tumor that rubbed on the ground and bled, he also had an enlarged prostate and could barely pee. There was nothing to do but operate and he was too sick (heart murmur, adrenal disease, cancer, etc) to survive it.

Birthday: August 30th, 2013
Died: September 24th, 2015
Coco:
Birthday: August 30th, 2013
Died: March 11th, 2016
I got them when they were about 6 weeks old.
They loved to climb on my hands & arms and lick my hands, arms, face, etc whenever they got a chance. They also love to hide in my hair or shirt.
They loved running and climbing in their cage and chasing each other. They also loves to destroy things like blankets, toilet paper, wood or paper toys, etc. They didn't like to come out of their cage much, when I took them out they would spend a while hiding before they decided to explore a little.
~Zoe: Pearl Merle Hooded
Zoe was the most dominant of the girls, she got along pretty well with the others but at times she would bully them. She chased them all but mostly went after Gem. She was also very grabby when everyone was getting treats and always tried to push her way to the front. When she was being peaceful she loved to cuddle up with Jo.
Zoe got a pituitary tumor. The first vet I took her to didn't know what was wrong and gave her antibiotics, after a few days of it not working and her getting worse I brought her to another vet who said it was a pituitary tumor. She was given a shot of medication but it was too late and she died later that night.
~Jo: Black Variberk
Jo was the biggest of the girls, she was the most curious and usually the first to try new things/start exploring. She was a daredevil and likes to climb all over things (the cage, blocks, ledges, etc). She was also the biggest jumper of them all and could jump higher then the others. She could be stubborn and annoying sometimes. She loved to eat just about everything. She spent most of her time with Zoe or Gem.
I am not sure what happened to Jo. She was fine (eating, playing, drinking, etc) Sunday morning/afternoon. Sunday night I checked on them all. She took a treat and ate it and was still drinking but she was acting lethargic. The next morning when I woke up she was dead.
~Hope: Beige Hooded with ruby eyes
Hope was the sweetest of the girls. She was the most nervous, she was usually hiding and was the last to come out. When she was out of the cage all she wanted to do was hide in my shirt or in my hair/on my shoulder. She got along with all the other rats but was mostly with Coco (the other calm/quiet rat).
Hope got sick very suddenly, she was having trouble eating, walking, drinking and was obviously in pain. The vet thinks she had some kind of tumor in her brain. She was getting worse quickly and the vet didn't think she would make it long enough to get medication (it would take about 2 days to come in) and for the medication to start working (it could take a week or longer). She was put to sleep so she wouldn't suffer anymore.
~Gem: Amber Hooded with red eyes
Gem was the least dominant of the girls, she was often picked on by Zoe. She acted very nervous but was usually right behind Jo climbing out of the cage or jumping out of/over something. She liked to hang out on my shoulder but preferred to be in the cage. She was a major food hoarder which was why she usually lost her treats to one of the other rats (she would hide it and they would take it). She got along best with Jo & Hope but seems to like everyone.
She started occasionally bleeding from her vagina and medication only helped while she was on it, the problem was that she was also miserable while on medication.
After being on medication for about 3 weeks it was stopped and since she was not showing any signs of pain and still active, eating, drinking, etc I decided to leave her instead of forcing medication down her throat every day for the rest of her life.
About 3 weeks after the medication stopped she stopped bleeding for a few days and then I felt a large lump in her belly. The vet said it was her uterus filled up with blood (probably it was a tumor in her uterus that blocked the blood from coming out anymore). Because she started showing signs of pain and the only option would be to put her back on medication (which wouldn't cure the tumor but might make her live a little longer and get rid of the pain) I decided to have her put to sleep. Suffering in pain or having to take medication wouldn't have been a good life for her.
~Coco: Brown Hooded
Coco was the smallest of the girls, she was the only one who likes to be pet (but not picked up). She was very nervous and one of the shyest. She likes to climb (bars of the cage, steps in the cage, my legs, etc). She also like to rip things apart (paper, toilet paper, blankets, etc). Coco & Hope were almost always together and loved to cuddle with each other.
Coco became much more confident when she was the only rat (she lived the longest).
She was old for a rat and wasn't acting right. She was losing weight, not eating much or playing anymore and moving very slowly, we couldn't tell for sure what was wrong beside age but she was showing signs of being in pain so I decided to put her to sleep.

Favorite treat: Ferretone
Favorite season: Any
Hates:
~Other ferrets taking his toys
~Being ignored
~Being held/unable to play
~Being locked in his cage
I got Jake at a pet store on January 9th, 2015 along with Ben, Buffy & Loki.
He could be super active, playful and crazy, he loved to climb into my shirt or onto my back.
He would climb things and jump onto me.
He loved to play in the paper box, with any kind of ball and with anything he wasn't suppose to play with.
He was always trying to climb or jump into or onto places he shouldn't be and could be very persistent.
He also loved to play with the other ferrets, sometimes he was too rough for them.
Jake got sick very fast, we don't know exactly what happened to Jake but the vet said his stomach was perforated.
He seemed a little tired in the morning but not enough to worry me and he had been completely fine the day before. I was out most of the day and when I got home at night he was not moving except for twitching and he crying whenever I touched or moved him. I rushed him to the vet as soon as possible, he was not breathing right and his heart beat was off. He started having seizures and turning blue at the vet so we had to put him to sleep.

Favorite treat: Pickles
Favorite season: Winter
Hates:
~Sharing her treats or toys with other animals
~Sharing my attention
~Being left home
~Being wet (rain, baths, etc)
I adopted Nikki from the SPCA when she was about 8 months old.
I don't know too much about her history but we are pretty sure she was abused because she was scared of moving objects, loud noises, new people (especially men) and stick like objects (brooms, sticks, rolled up carpets, etc).
Nikki loved to play in snow, if I let her she would have spend hours outside even in a blizzard. She was a very calm dog most of the time but she got very excited when she saw someone she liked, children or other animals (especially other dogs).
She was a great dog, she was super friendly and had never even growled at a person, she loved kids of all ages and was really good with them aside from being a little to playful for small kids (she sometimes knocked them over). She didn't always get along with other big female dogs but was great with small dogs, puppies and most male dogs.
She was smart, knew a lot of commands and figured most thing out quickly but she could be very stubborn.
She had a lot of fears and a few bad habits like barking at everything/everyone when outside or while looking out the window and stealing food.
As she got older she slowed down and could be grumpy with active/playful dogs.
Nikki started to have problems with her back legs, she couldn't jump or run around as much anymore and lost her balance sometimes.
She got Vestibular Disease 3 times in less then a year, the third time she died a few days in.
I got her DNA tested and she came back as:
41.5% - Collie
26.8% - Bernese Mountain Dog
10.9% - Golden Retriever
8.8% - Akita
8.1% - German Shepherd
3.9% - Rottweiler

Breed: Mix
Gender: Female
Birthday: May 1st, 2003
Died: September 23rd, 2019
Favorite toy: Little toy mice
Favorite game: Chasing toys around the floor
Favorite food: Royal Canin Dry - Indoor Hairball
Favorite treat: Tuna (or Twizzlers if she managed to steal one)
Favorite season: Any, it doesn't matter to her
Hates:
~Being away from me
~Being wet

~Loud noises
I adopted Jen along with her sister Smokey when they were 6 weeks old.
When they were about 3 days old they were found in a field with their dead mother and siblings.
They were put with another cat who had older kittens of her own but when they were about 6 weeks old the cat got out and didn't want anything to do with them when she was found.
She was a great cat, usually got along with other friendly animals (usually only took a few days for her to make friends with a new animal) and was never aggressive to any person.
She loved to be pet and cuddled but only by me, she followed me around and would lie next to me or on my lap when I was sitting.
When she couldn't be with me she was usually sleeping on my clothes or bed.
She allowed others to pet her as long as I was around or she knew them well.
She was losing weight and fur, she started having trouble walking, getting into the litter box and couldn't eat her dry food anymore. She still acted happy (wanting to eat and getting super excited every time I opened a can of wet food, purring, wanting to cuddle, etc).
When she got to a point that she would fall into her food or water when trying to eat and fell down the stairs once I decided it was time to put her to sleep before she got worse (to a point where she didn't act happy anymore).

When she got to a point that she would fall into her food or water when trying to eat and fell down the stairs once I decided it was time to put her to sleep before she got worse (to a point where she didn't act happy anymore).

Favorite Toy: Fluffy Pom Pom Ball
Favorite game: Dragging the ball in circles
Favorite food: Go! Fit & Free & Orijen Cat & Kitten
Favorite treat: Ferretone
Favorite season: Any
Hates:
~Being in water or snow (getting wet)
~Being locked in his cage
I got Loki at a pet store on January 9th, 2015 along with Buffy, Ben & Jake.
He was sometimes too rough with the others but they got along most of the time.
He was usually pretty calm but could become hyper when excited.
He liked to do his own thing and was usually on his own (except when sleeping, he was always in a pile).
He loved playing in tubes and got into everything. He was also the most cuddly of the four ferrets.
He got scared very easily, when he got spooled by something he would run and hide until he was sure everything was okay.
He liked to stay in his room and got nervous in new places, he would freeze and shake.
Loki suddenly started losing weight (still eating) and not acting like himself, the vet said to keep an eye on him for a few days then bring him in if he stops eating or gets worse. Two or three days later I noticed blood around his mouth and took him to the vet. He had a large tumor and the vet said he didn't seem to be in pain physically but was not feeling good at all and even with treatment he might not live more then a few days and at most a few months. He also said that he would probably start to feel pain so I decided to have him put to sleep before he got to that point.

Hates:
~Being wet
~Being groomed and groomers
~Leaving the house
~Other cats
~Strangers
I adopted Smokey along with her sister Jen when they were 6 weeks old.
When they were about 3 days old they were found in a field with their dead mother and siblings.
They were put with another cat who had older kittens of her own but when they were about 6 weeks old the cat got out and didn't want anything to do with them when she was found.
Smokey was a pretty good cat but could be aggressive, mostly when was scared or stressed. She had attacked groomers and vets, she would bite or scratch me when she was unhappy about something (her nail got stuck, seeing other cats outside, after being grooming or at the vet, etc).
When she felt like it she loves to be pet, have her chin scratched and her belly rubbed. She also would lean in for kisses and especially liked them on the top of her head.
As she got older she became more affectionate with me.
She never really liked or allowed herself to be held, cuddled or to sleep on a lap but is started spending a lot of time lying on me when I was on the couch.
She started drinking a lot and peeing a crazy amount, I brought her to the vet and she was diagnosed with stage 4 renal failure. A few days after starting medication she stopped eating completely and became very lethargic. She went back to the vet, she was too far gone and nothing could be done so she was put to sleep.

Hates:
~Being held still
~Being locked in his cage
I got Ben at a pet store on January 9th, 2015 along with Buffy, Jake & Loki.
He could be active and playful but was calmer then Buffy & Jake.
He liked to follow the other ferrets around and copied whatever they were doing.
He loved playing with his stuffed ferret, putting all the toys into the litter boxes and running through tunnels/tubes.
He also loved to splash around in shallow water.
He was scared of noises, if he heard any loud or sudden noise he would run and hide.
As he got older he became much cuddlier.
He started limping and had a swollen lymph node in his leg, the vet thought it might be an infection and put him on medication.
He started to get worse after about a week. He became dehydrated, was bleeding from his mouth and wasn't acting like himself.
He had a follow up appointment but died overnight.
